Hillary King
M.S. Interior Design, NCIDQ
I was born and raised here in Colorado. I have been living here almost my whole life, and I love everything this state has to offer.
I graduated high school in Littleton Colorado in 1998. I received my BS in Interior Design in 2003 and my Masters of Interior Design in 2016.
While in my undergrad I was very involved in many different ways. I was on the Applied Human Sciences Student Council also serving as a senator for the college my Junior and Senior years. I volunteered to plan the senior showcase and received the department reward for service. I also spent time as an SCT for AutoCAD and Color & Light.
After graduating in 2003 I went off to work in the hospitality design industry. I thrived in this work. I went from Colorado to Los Angeles and back. I eventually added food service design and commercial kitchen design to my resume.
In 2013 I knew I needed to move on, I needed a challenge. I came back to CSU for my masters where I was lucky enough to work with some key figures leading the industry in research of creativity and creative thinking. I immediately felt at home and couldn’t wait to start contributing. I was lucky enough to co-teach the senior capstone with Dr. Laura Malinin my first year as a graduate student, and then again my second year as a GTA. Other classes I served as a GTA while CSU include Pro Practice, & Revit.
For the last 6-8 years I have been working for local millwork manufacture in Loveland Colorado, Genesis Innovations. They come from a background in German engineering and cabinet making. I was drawn to their work and quality. With my strong skills in design detailing I found myself again in the Hospitality design sector developing and coordinating projects by designers all over the country and world. The experience and time spent at Genesis was invaluable. I loved being involved in the construction of a project and seeing all the work come to fruition. I grew my knowledge and strength in practice, technology and as a designer.
In 2019 I started 42 Designz. Although I primarily did contract work for Genesis, I would also do some small commercial projects and residential remodel projects.
In 2020 I was asked to participate in the IAD Design Scenario as a reviewer for Concept Development and have continued to do this for the last 4 years. I then worked with Dr. Leah Scolere to provide a concept workshop for students going through the design scenario. I had received other opportunities to be involved with the IAD program over the next few years, where I guest spoke for both the materials class and Junior studio.
Then in Spring 2024 I was asked to teach INTD 276 Studio. I did not hesitate to accept as and welcomed this new opportunity not knowing how much I would love it. Then in Fall 2025 I went on to teach INTD 266, a course focused on technology and graphic presentation and developed a new class INTD 251 for the IAD program with a focus in technical drawing and design communication. The design program here at CSU is incredible and I am so proud to be here part of such an amazing group of focused passionate educators and students.
